What Causes Red Blotches?

Trusted Health Products

Dealing with skin conditions or intermittent issues is no walk in the park. There are so many different things that can potentially go wrong when it comes to the skin that sometimes it can feel utterly exhausting when another new, random symptom pops up.

Red, blotchy skin on the face is not only unsightly but it's very embarrassing and can be off putting. Especially when you don't know what's causing it or how to get a handle on it so it can then go away. There are many different things that can contribute to this. The most common are listed below.

Allergic Reaction

There are various things that can cause the skin to react with visible redness. There are food allergies, common clothing materials and skin products that may trigger allergic reactions. Some of these allergies may take you by surprise as there isn't really a way to know everything that you may potentially be allergic to.

An allergic reaction can look like red blotches on the skin, patches of redness or even welts. Also think about things like alcohol - some people simply can't tolerate even a tiny bit of alcohol because they become overheated and it shows on their face. Sometimes certain skin products can cause unsavory reactions like breakouts or red skin. Be conscious of added unnecessary ingredients in your skin products that may be causing a problem.

The Weather

How cold it is outside can definitely contribute to how your skin may appear. The dryness that many people suffer from during the winter months can often begin to turn your skin red and cause blotches to form on your cheeks, forehead and sometimes even your neck.

This is sometimes what happens when your skin lacks the necessary amount of moisture that it requires. This is a common occurrence in the winter because skin is so easily drained by the cold and the wind. This is also why skin can get chapped and start to hurt during these types of conditions.

Rosacea

This is a specific skin condition that causes red patches of skin across the forehead, cheeks, chin and nose that are very noticeable. The skin can sometimes become really hot to the touch and irritated, not to mention that its presence is incredibly obvious to other people.

If the condition is untreated it can lead to puffy cheeks or a nose that appears larger. This is a condition that typically only affects those with fair skin. There are various treatments that can be used to help the presence of the rosacea.

Household Products

You should also think about what you may have around your house that could have contributed to the red splotches. There are things like perfumes, detergents and other household items that may be the reason for your temperamental, red skin. At the first sign of trouble, you should take stock of all the possible causes and try to mitigate the look of the redness. Try to switch to all natural, organic products if at all possible.
