Simple Eye Care Tips for Computer Users

If you are spending most of your time in front of the PC, then it is time to start taking care of your eyes too.  Eye strain is caused by looking into the computer screen for long hours.  Other than that, it can also cause health problems and resulting in induced work efficiency, the issue needs to be dealt on a priority basis.  The effort in finding out simple ways on how to take care of stressed out eyes is worth helpful.  There is no need to panic when having eye strain. Most eye-related problems can be reduced through a combination of factors. Correcting workstation conditions, the right posture, special anti-glare screens, eye exercises and artificial tears can go a long way.

The important solution for eye strain is simply to blink more often.  Dryness is prevented when you blink more because tears spread over the surface of the cornea.  Try also using anti-glare screens and anti-glare glasses.  Another preventive measures are atificial tears.  You must try not to face towards windows or bright light sources. Frequent breaks for 10-15 minutes, likewise looking at distant objects every now and then can be of help in reducing eye strain.  Try to adjust the air conditioning and keep the humidity at comfortable levels. Good ambient lighting and light that does not fall directly on to the screen is also important. The computer screen must be level to the eye.

Healthy Habits For Your Kids

Part of your responsibility as a parent is to teach your children how to lead healthy lives. This will ensure they lead healthy lives as adults. It is best to start training children to have healthy habits when they are young, before they develop bad habits.  It is important that you practice what you preach, if you expect your children to learn healthy habits. Its good if you tell them what they should do, but it is even better if they see you making healthy decisions too.

The following are some ways to help your kids avoid unhealthy behaviors.

Children in the United States are gaining more weight than ever before. They are eating way to much junk food, and not exercising enough.  Weight problems that develop during childhood often lead to physical illness, such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes later in life.

  • Pay attention to the kinds of food you buy. Limit the amount of “junk food” your kids eat. Make sure that you always have fresh fruits and vegetables available. Be aware that low-fat foods often have other unwanted ingredients.
  • Serve a variety of healthy foods and use appropriate portion sizes.
  • Encourage your children to avoid soda and to drink lots of water and milk.
  • Limit the amount of time your children spend watching television, using the computer or playing video games.
  • Make sure that your family has a routine to exercise. Take a walk, visit the community pool or go for a bike ride together. Encourage your children to participate in extracurricular activities.
