Work Related Stress Blamed Due To Lack Of Exercise

The increase levels of stress, ill health and impaired performance in the workplace may be contributed by lack of regular exercise.

A poll of over 1000 business people by Siemens found that 29% of female executives have no exercise at all, while less than a third did the recommended levels of three sessions per week. Men didn’t fair much better, with 32% admitting that they fail to take any exercise at all.

The survey shows that 2.3 million people are estimated by the research to suffer from ill-health caused by work related stress each year.  80% of business people agree that exercise helps to reduce stress levels, and busy lifetsyles prevented 60% both men and women from working out.

The National Stress Management awards  has been launched by the Stress Management Society to  give companies recognition for effective stress management policies in the workplace. "We’ve seen ideas like relaxation areas for quiet time, at-work exercise programmes like yoga or walking clubs, and ‘desk survival’ training," says Neil Shah, director of the Stress Management Society.

Regular internal communication about how to beat stress or reviewing the quality of food and drink served in the canteen are some indirect activities which helps a lot."

Secret to Senior Health

The secret to senior health is proper diet and exercise.  A nutritional diet and physical activity can help prevent diseases such as cancer, stroke, heart disease, and diabetes. A healthy diet also can help manage diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.

As people get older, it becomes more important to exercise regularly. According to the American Heart Association, the inactive person loses from 3-5% of muscle fiber each decade after age 30. By the age of 60, they would have lost 60% of their muscle fiber. Muscle strength is increased by exercise.. It can help improve balance and coordination, and therefore help to prevent falls.

Organizations including the heart association advise that regular physical activity helps prevent bone loss (osteoporosis) and the risk of conditions such as heart disease, Type II diabetes, colon cancer, stress, and depression. In addition, exercise can help extend the lives of people with conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. Having proper health can decreases chances for serious illness or death caused by infection. If a senior catches the flu, for instance, it can have more detrimental effects than in a healthier, younger person. When the SARS outbreak occurred in 2002 and 2003, clinicians expressed concern about the elderly Americans and again expressed the importance of diet and exercise. As people age, their immune system response weakens. Seniors need to be proactive in keeping their systems strong.

Helpful Sleeping Tips

One third of our lives have been spent on sleeping, but sometimes sleep can be elusive.

Everyone almost have had transient insomnia. Insomnia is the inability to fall asleep once in a while, or feeling tired everytime you wake up.

Insomnia that is chronic, lasts longer.  Medical or psychiatric cause are the common causes of insomnia.  Others may be brought by colds, pain or depression. But 10 percent of all insomnia occurs in the absence of any medical or psychiatric disorder, and is called primary insomnia.

Good sleep habits offered by Duke University:

*  When you get up, try to keep a schedule like, eat, take medicine and go to bed, etc.
*  Try to establish a relaxing before-sleep ritual, like taking warm bath, having light snack or reading for 10 minutes.  This can let your body become informed that it is already near bed time.
*  When sleepy try to go to bed, get out of bed when not sleeping.
*  Have a regular exercise, it is best to exercise in the late afternoon, about six hours before bedtime.
*  Around bedtime, try to avoid caffeine, alcohol and smoking.
*  Don't nap, naps are best taken in the mid-afternoon.

More assesment and treatment may be needed if these habits are not working, immediately tell your doctor.

Why Are Teenagers Ignoring Back Pain Signs?

In the new study, it is suggested that Britain's teenagers are more  particular with stuffs such as money and their friends rather than the state of their health.

It is also stated that according to reseach that was carried out by the British Chiropractic Association (BCA), some 22% of girls admitted that they do not have exercise programs during outside of school hours.

Also, research reveals that for an additional hour a week n top of activities they engage in at school, only 20% of boys exercise.

Chiropractor Tim Hutchful, of the BCA, said: "Today's teens have become so engulfed in their social lives and with their appearance that the most important thing which is their personal health seems to have slipped off their agenda.

"Many teenagers are ignoring aches and pains which could lead to back and joint problems in later life."

47% of teenagers do not go and get medical advice when they are in pain or feel unwell and that more than 60% have already experienced some type of backache, as shown in the studies.

The research found that the main cause of back pain among teenagers in the UK is awkward position when sleeping (81%), followed by carrying heavy bags (76%), and sitting for long periods of time in the same position (59%).
