A common cold is not the best excuse in being absent at work. Colds are transmitted through a small virus called the rhinovirus found in invisible droplets in the air we breathe or on the things we touch. They attack the lining of the nose and throat, triggering an immune system reaction that leads to a running or stuffy nose, headache, a sore throat, fever, and later on cough. Virus is said to be airborne, since it cam spread from person to another after sneezing, and coughing with the victim breathing in the infected invisible droplets or from someone hands to those of others such that when the victim touches his nose, eyes, or even the mouth, he ends up getting infected. During two to four days after the symptoms appear, colds are in the most contagious stage. Mostly it lasted for weeks but some last until two weeks.
Children, elderly, smokers or passive smokers easily get a cold which may even be more severe, last longer or end up into complications like pneumonia. There are effective vaccibe and drugs to comabat colds. The utmost prevention to avoid colds is wash hands before and after blowong the nose, cover the nose while coughng and sneezing and avoiding the sharing of towels, toothbrushes and used tissue. To relieve the symptoms of common colds such as muscle pains, headache and fever, a medicine is recommended to be taken in.
Ease cold symptoms by drinking lots of fluids. Avoid drinking caffeinated beverages or alcohol that can cause dehydration and frequent urination. In a few days or weeks colds get to set off, whether one is taking medication or not. But when colds take longer there may be complications of ear infections, bronchitis and asthma.
